We just stopped by the new Kwik-E-Mart on Venice and Sepulveda to check out the buzz (not the Buzz Cola ). The newly converted Kwik-E-Mart masked all signs of it's previous sub-par 7-11 style with new Simpson's product placement and branding inside and out. The security guard was at the head of the 10 person line of those who wanted to just get inside the door and induldge in some of Homer's favorites treats. Slurpie machines have been coverted to "Squishee" machines, KrustyO's line the shelves and packs of "Buzz Cola" are stacked in the fridge. People were chomping down on their doughnuts with pride, as if this was the first time they had seen a doughnut with pink icing and sprinkles.
Buyers on Ebay are paying up to $345 for one of the Kwik-E-Mart uniforms that all the employees are now wearing. I don't think that the people working behind the counter today were the same people that I've seen working in that 7-11 prior to this promotion. The marketing plan seems to have covered all the bases, except for the Duff Beer. (This is a PG-13 movie, after all.)

Check out these sweet slip ons with one of many awesome Japanese screen prints. How could you go for the checkerboard when these are out on the market! Waraku is on Abbot Kinney in Venice, here's what they say about themselves:
"Shopping at WARAKU is like entering a den of t the sneaker fetish influenced with today’s TOKYO culture, and digging up a hidden treasure. There are some unique - one of a kind- sneakers and many limited editions from NIKE, ASICS-ONITSUKA, PUMA, ADIDAS etc. along with Japanese brands like PATRICK and NAMITATSU which hard to hit in the United States. Also be sure to check out the clothing/accessory selection from kitsch lovers’ knick-knacks to asymmetrical reversible jackets by Japanese creative young designers exclusively imported from Japan."
I can't believe I have never been here - but I'll be checking it out on my lunch break next week.
Looking forward to our 3rd annual trip down to the Abbot Kinney festival with the Diaz family next weekend.
Abbot Kinney Blvd in venice closes off traffic from Main St. to Venice Blvd to host 2 stages of live music, dancersand performance artists, 3 food areas, a Spirit Garden, Art Pavilion and over 300 vendors featuring original, handcrafted goods. Festival is Sept. 24 from 10am to 6pm.
It's s a great time. Its casual and mello. There aren't too many people, it's pretty well organized and you don't have to pay $20 for parking and admission (nothing liek Sunset Junction). It's all free. Granted, free parking may require some walking, but it's not bad.
This is where we first got introduced to Spicy Brown. The last 2 years Kim and I have walked away with our new Spicy Brown totes, lets see if we're up for it again this year.
Spicy Brown has struck it as the coolest vendor down there, in my opinion. There was another vendor Bungalow 360 who sold some cool handmade bags. I think there is a lot of room for growth for this festival and their vendors. Maybe, we'll get mangowishes started down there next year!
