Looking forward to our 3rd annual trip down to the Abbot Kinney festival with the Diaz family next weekend.
Abbot Kinney Blvd in venice closes off traffic from Main St. to Venice Blvd to host 2 stages of live music, dancersand performance artists, 3 food areas, a Spirit Garden, Art Pavilion and over 300 vendors featuring original, handcrafted goods. Festival is Sept. 24 from 10am to 6pm.
It's s a great time. Its casual and mello. There aren't too many people, it's pretty well organized and you don't have to pay $20 for parking and admission (nothing liek Sunset Junction). It's all free. Granted, free parking may require some walking, but it's not bad.
This is where we first got introduced to Spicy Brown. The last 2 years Kim and I have walked away with our new Spicy Brown totes, lets see if we're up for it again this year.
Spicy Brown has struck it as the coolest vendor down there, in my opinion. There was another vendor Bungalow 360 who sold some cool handmade bags. I think there is a lot of room for growth for this festival and their vendors. Maybe, we'll get mangowishes started down there next year!
Mochi and I are going to go check out the Tread show tomorrow in San Diego. I just ran across the site and it looks its going to be a great show with a lof oa talented artists/designers. Some of our fav designers will be there, including Poketo.
Here is some info on the show: With dozens of new designers, THREAD once again gives savvy men and
women the chance to find something truly original for their wardrobes.
Buy direct from 100 independent fashion designers from New York, Los
Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego and beyond.
Here is a list of some of the vendors: Whodini Handmade, Moss Mills, Poketo, Miele Fresca, Random Nicole, Anonymous Apparel, Spicy Brown.. (see a whole list of exhibitors here.)
How fun is that going to be. It's only $10 to get in. It's going to be a two hour drive to get there, but I think it will be a good day!
Today we went down to the Tofu Festival. We got there at noon so we could get in line to be 3 of 140 to watch Iron Chef Morimoto's cooking demonstration in the cooking tent. Morimoto prepared a Daicon radish pasta with Lobster Tofu sauce, looked and smelled yummy. He was very entertaining, definitely worth the wait.
For me, the highlights of this festival were the Morimoto demonstration and the food was fun to check out. It was cool becuase all of the dishes from the different vendors were small portions that ranged from $1-$4 so we got to share 5 or 6 different dishes before we were done tasting. We had a great Tuna Poki salad from the Berth 55 tent, which was good. The House Foods of America tent had a really good tofu-turkey meatball, which we caught on the way out with one of our last food tickets.
Other vendors that we hit up: Spicy Brown, Poketo, & Yolk.
