I just found outthat Rivera now delivers hot plate room service to residents in the MetLofts...awesome! This means I
can now get a little taste of Rivera goodness in the comfort of my own loft!! ...if I can afford it that week. ;)
We were able to sample Rivera food and drinks at our building xmas party AND on New Years Eve with Yen and Tess. Great flavors and fun presentation (think Top Chef).
Their "mixology" bar's Rivera Cup (their version of a mojito with cucumber rather than mint) is something I've been thinking about ever since...mm...I could go for one now.
Chef John Rivera's philosophy: Food tells a story. Food is powerful. Food unites us. **
Ingredients for my kick ass birthday included: Mochipop, Bread & Porridge banana pancakes, Friends, Dinner @ Phillipe's, Tony Diamonds & Hoegaarden @ Mountain Bar, Dinner #2 @ Full House and..kiddie rides in Chinatown Land. The best way to ring in the last year of my twenties and 2008 in our (soon to be) new hood.
Love love love Milk on Beverly. Went there on an after dinner stroll with Mochi last night. When I first saw the spot opening a few months back I thought it was going to be a boutique but it was a pleasant surprise to see a modern day ice cream parlor in it's place. Owner Bret Thompson is former exec chef @ Patina (yum!). He's brought his childhood favs alive at Milk serving ice cream, splits, sundaes, and a very interesting selection of sandwiches and salads. We went for the banana split, but I will definitely be back to taste some of the other goodies there. Seems like they could really tap into to something in marketing their branded goods with that cute logo.

I went to Lola's on Fairfax last Friday night with my girlfriends and had the most amazing time! We made reservations for 8:00. It was pretty packed when we got there but we sat immediately and had a wonderful waitress - "Liz from Lola's". If you go, try to get in her section for great service. Food and Martinis were fabulous.
Food: 1 appetizer special (grilled cheese with goat cheese and smoked Gouda) with balsamic reduction over a bed of arugula, Split pea and French onion soups, and a Warm Goat Cheese salad.
Drink: Lola's Martini (the Lola's cosmo), What a Pear martini, Chimay and another martini that was similar to to the Lola's and named after Lola's daughter.
Location: 945 N. Fairfax Ave., West Hollywood, CA 90046
Definitely recommend it, but make reservations if you want a table!
This am Mochi and I went to Rita Flora on La Brea for breakfast. The Flora Kitchen has a seasonal menu and uses market fresh & organic ingredients, which really appealed to me. I read about it in Los Angeles mag, and we drive by it all the time so we decided we'd give it a try.
Unfortunately, I was really disappointed! My toast was cold and reminiscent of cardboard, the service took a long time and the prices weren't justified by our orders. I did like the amazing backdrop. The dining area is actually placed in a room of flowers where floral designers are doing their thing and you're surrounded by beautiful flowers & plants.
I was bummed that the food didn't rock...because the ambiance was great. This place seems to get some great write ups so maybe it was bad timing.
We just took my parent out for their 35th wedding anniversary to the Auberge du Soleil, and amazing Inn and restaurant up off Rutherford Hill in Napa Valley. We had a decedent lunch of Seared Ahi, Quail, and Pumpkin Risotto (not all for one person!). We had an amazing wine as well, J Winery Russian River Pinot Grigio. I'm probably butchering the name of the winery, but I can't remember off the top of my head. I'll upload pics as soon as I get them off Mochi's camera!
Definitely would recommend the Auberge du Soleil to anyone who wants to have an amazing meal overlooking the beautiful Napa Valley, and who doesn't! I'm sure the Inn and spa are amazing as well. Next time...
Its definitely been a weekend full of eating, so I thought I'd document it.
Saturday Brunch: Leonor's Vegetarian Mexican Restuarant, North Hollywood
Review: LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS restaurant, and I am not a vegatarian. Its's healthy comfort food, and its just fun to go there. Leonor's daughter always helps us when we go in there, and she always has such a big smile. Mochi introduced me to this place when we started dating. He's been going there for years and in the last 2 years I think we have gone there 7 or 8 times. They have soy everything (soy chicken, beef, shrimp) and it all tastes good. My favorite is the Chicken Quesadilla (with fresh guacamole), Soy chicken salad (with cabbage, olives, and other yummy things all chopped up together) and the flax ice tea. A++
Saturday Dinner: U-Zen Sushi for Kent's Bday
Review: Decent and reasonably priced. The Spicy tuna hand roll was amazing. The crunchy roll was a interesting but a little flavorless. It had spicy scallops fried and topped with sliced raw onions and peppers. Bamboo roll was pretty good with eel in the center and a cucumber wrapper. Other great things that were ordered Toro, Albacore and interestingly enough a stuffed jalapeno that was awesome. Happy Bday Kent!
Sunday Breakfast: Left-over Leonor's
Review: Tastes even better the next day.
Sunday Lunch: Honey's Kettle Fried Chicken
Review: Greasay! Food was decent, not as good as I thought it would be after reading a few very good reviews. I liked the pan fried fish and coleslaw. Mochi liked the chicken. Dont' think we'll be eating there again but had to try it.
All for now, thank god.. I dont want to eat anything for a while.
