Ingredients for my kick ass birthday included: Mochipop, Bread & Porridge banana pancakes, Friends, Dinner @ Phillipe's, Tony Diamonds & Hoegaarden @ Mountain Bar, Dinner #2 @ Full House and..kiddie rides in Chinatown Land. The best way to ring in the last year of my twenties and 2008 in our (soon to be) new hood.

's line of oversized wood and stone rings has captivated me. Hand-carved exotic woods come together with minerals and stones - selected for their healing properties - to finish off these unique pieces which are truly small pieces of art.
This piece is made of Ebony and Vanadinite and has the properties to "clear confusion and increase sensitivity to life." Could this make is worth the $2,500-5,000 price tag?

I found a new favorite at Suehiro today, Nabeyaki Udon (with egg, fish cake, shrimp, shitake and spinach.) *Yum* Suehiro is definitely not the best Japanese food in Little Tokyo, but its fast, cheap and it was the first place Mochi took me to in Little Tokyo way back when. It was a really good Udon! I was pleasantly surprised.
We were actually on our way down to Daikokuya (where you can find the best Ramen in Little Tokyo) but of course there was a line out the door even at 2:30 in the afternoon.

We just stopped by the new Kwik-E-Mart on Venice and Sepulveda to check out the buzz (not the Buzz Cola ). The newly converted Kwik-E-Mart masked all signs of it's previous sub-par 7-11 style with new Simpson's product placement and branding inside and out. The security guard was at the head of the 10 person line of those who wanted to just get inside the door and induldge in some of Homer's favorites treats. Slurpie machines have been coverted to "Squishee" machines, KrustyO's line the shelves and packs of "Buzz Cola" are stacked in the fridge. People were chomping down on their doughnuts with pride, as if this was the first time they had seen a doughnut with pink icing and sprinkles.
Buyers on Ebay are paying up to $345 for one of the Kwik-E-Mart uniforms that all the employees are now wearing. I don't think that the people working behind the counter today were the same people that I've seen working in that 7-11 prior to this promotion. The marketing plan seems to have covered all the bases, except for the Duff Beer. (This is a PG-13 movie, after all.)

Finally..we're headed out to the Felt Club XL Summer event tomorrow off Melrose. I've been wanting to check out one of the Felt Club XL events since I heard about the last Christmas event in December. Looking forward to seeing Poketo's latest and greatest and checking out Whodini's newest goods.
Tommorrow's event will be DJ'ed by Dirty Robot and Lance Rock. This year's event will host over 70 crafters from Southern California and beyond. The vendors will be showing their latest D.I.Y. goods, happy shopping music will play in the background and crafts classes will be held throughout the day. It's bound to be a good time and it always feels good to support the indie craft community.

Just got back from El Coyote...the only place where I know the secret way to order a drink. Here's the trick, you order a margarita "straight up" with a side of ice and it's the same cost as margarita ordered with ice and you get twice as much margarita! (Thanks to Stoph for filling me in on this secret last time we went there). I have no idea how well known this is, but we'll call it a little secret to make me feel special!
This time I enjoyed the food as well. I got the Chicken & Rice (stewed chicken and veggies with rice and salad). Mochi got the Carnitas (yum!). Not much to say about the bland guacamole, but the margaritas make up for it!

Meltdown is the trendy new joint that just opened up in the "up n' coming" downtown Culver City area featuring a menu of melted sandwiches, both sweet and savory. We have been going down to that part of town for the last 3 years and its cool to see all these new businesses sprouting up down there. Its also nice to see something new that is not another wine bar. Meltdown opened a couple weeks ago, and I will do my best to get down there in the next couple weeks. From what I hear the hours are still limited to weekday lunch hours. I'm looking forward to when they get their breakfast melts going, but until then I think I'll go for the Classic 3 Cheese Sandwich (sharp cheddar, muenster and fontina on sourdough) and the Banana Nut (nutella and banana on egg Bread). Talk about comfort food! Check out the menu here.

Love love love Milk on Beverly. Went there on an after dinner stroll with Mochi last night. When I first saw the spot opening a few months back I thought it was going to be a boutique but it was a pleasant surprise to see a modern day ice cream parlor in it's place. Owner Bret Thompson is former exec chef @ Patina (yum!). He's brought his childhood favs alive at Milk serving ice cream, splits, sundaes, and a very interesting selection of sandwiches and salads. We went for the banana split, but I will definitely be back to taste some of the other goodies there. Seems like they could really tap into to something in marketing their branded goods with that cute logo.

I went to Lola's on Fairfax last Friday night with my girlfriends and had the most amazing time! We made reservations for 8:00. It was pretty packed when we got there but we sat immediately and had a wonderful waitress - "Liz from Lola's". If you go, try to get in her section for great service. Food and Martinis were fabulous.
Food: 1 appetizer special (grilled cheese with goat cheese and smoked Gouda) with balsamic reduction over a bed of arugula, Split pea and French onion soups, and a Warm Goat Cheese salad.
Drink: Lola's Martini (the Lola's cosmo), What a Pear martini, Chimay and another martini that was similar to to the Lola's and named after Lola's daughter.
Location: 945 N. Fairfax Ave., West Hollywood, CA 90046
Definitely recommend it, but make reservations if you want a table!
