I stumbled upon this Japanese creative studio's site tonight and I have been enjoying it for upwards of 15 minutes, and I'm only on their web portfolio...
Headed up by Haruki Higashi, Loworks has a "style that includes
acres of Zen calm, punctuated by random patches of visual havoc. By
mixing relaxed, hand-drawn graphics with the precision of digital
tools, the agency represents an evolutionary jump for Japanese design." They have some great interactive work showcased on their site and the site is very well put together. "..Japan is as much about order, tranquility, Zen rock gardens and
Buddhist monasteries as it is bug-eyed cartoons and visual chaos." Their site is a reflection of this statement.

Check out this cool post-it like paper pad that looks like an onion...and feels like an onion!
"The Kokuyo Design award winners were announced a week ago, and this awesome post-it pad won the grand prix. The theme was "leaves." Each layer looks slightly different from the one before it, and the translucency and texture make it really feel like you are peeling off thinly cut layers of the onion."

Last night we finally got over to see our good friend's new house which they had been working on for months. It's amazing! Lucky has managed to covert this small, older house into a spacious, stylish, modern house for the family.
Check out these pics posted on Apartment Therapy to see how well everything came out! (Note the sweet Viking range that they found on ebay for the kitchen!)
Congrats guys!
Johnny Cupcakes. I think that's all that needs to be said to make you wonder what that is. No, it's not another Sprinkles competitor. It's freshly baked tees that rock.
"The mysterious Johnny Cupcakes creates & pushes all sorts of limitededition/exclusive clothing & accessories for both ladies & gents, all with cupcakesencoded within his designs. Johnny makes a living of traveling all over, throwing his coined "CupperwearParties" at random galleries, colleges, boutiques, apartments, & so forth. Everyone likescupcakes."
Johnny Cupcake's only retail store is in Boston, but they sell them in a few localboutiques that you can check out. In SF check them out at Villains on Haight St. In LA, they are at Barracuda on Melrose.
I love the story of Poketo written up in this NYTimes article from last month. Poketo is a vendor that we see at a lot of the art fairs that we go to and a line that Mochi has been watching for some time.
Poketo works with different artists to create unique wallets, shirts and other accessories. Mochi has this wallet designed by Luke Chueh (based on Luke's "The Soundtrack" painting).
This pic it the Miki Amano Poketo shirt that I got at the Tofu festival a few weeks ago. I love it and I have gotten so many compliments each time I've worn it.
Check out more of Miki Amano's designs and illustrations here.
